[ he shakes his head a little, briefly taking his eyes off the mermen near the house. ] If I'd known you were having trouble, I could have come to help you out. I know I haven't been here as long as you have, but...
[ ... there's a sigh, and the fact that he's rubbing one of his temples is probably nearly audible. it's frustrating, feeling like he can't help his friends as much as he could back home. and... there's a part of him, an irrational part, that wonders if yosuke didn't reach out to him for help because the other boy isn't as sure that he can still come through in the clutch. ]

... wait, hang on a second. [ and he muffles the phone up against his shoulder, summoning forth izanagi with another quick surge of power. another blast of lightning is enough to scare away the mermen that were daring enough to creep within a few feet of the porch, and there's a clamor of angry screeching and hissing as they scatter back into the darkness.

[Yosuke hasn't exactly been "staying" anywhere... not only because TSO only just got raided, but because he's been through things like this before, and it's usually safer to keep moving if you can't find someplace safe anyway. The important thing, though, is that Souji didn't need to worry about Yosuke. He can survive through things like this at this point. Rather, he feels responsible for his partner and Naoto.]
...Yeah, still here. Heh, sounds like you're actually managing okay.
[On second thought, maybe Souji and Naoto will be okay. They've got their Personas, after all - and they can back each other up.]
Listen, Souji - I'm gonna be okay. You don't need to worry about me. [he pauses, and then in a softer voice:] Just... stay alive. Whether you stay or move... please, be careful.
These things aren't as tough as the Shadows we've been dealing with back home.
[ which might be slightly underestimating them, but he can hear the worry in yosuke's voice -- at times like this, the best thing a leader can do is project confidence, to try and ease the fears of the rest of the team. ... and even here, in a place where he's not really the leader, it's hard not to fall back into old habits. ] Don't worry about us.
[ and the reassuring smile is practically audible. ] I'm not planning on dying anytime soon, I promise. We'll be all right.

[Yosuke hesitates, and there's a moment of silence on the other side. Should he go with his friends and make sure they're safe? Or should he focus on getting back to TSO, to make sure his recent caretakers are safe...?
Then he remembers TJ charging outside with nothing more than some discarded prosthetic leg to defend himself.]
...I think I'm gonna catch up with you guys. I gotta make sure some people down here are okay first.
[Souji and Naoto are more than capable, and what's the harm in just meeting up with them later? Should be easy.]
Like I said, I'll be okay. [he smiles for Souji, letting it seep into his voice.] I've been through this kinda thing a lot by now, bro.
[ he expected as much; yosuke's not the type of friend to leave someone he cares about behind in a pinch, and if he's feeling confident enough to stay behind and check up on being, hopefully that means he's not in too bad of a spot himself -- at least, souji's trying to look at it with that sort of optimism. ]
I understand. Don't worry, as long as Naoto and I stick together, we should be all right. [ especially if things pan out well with yaha and his castle. ] ... but if you get into trouble, at least promise you'll call. Just because we're not behind a TV doesn't mean I don't have your back, partner.
[In the back of his mind, Yosuke has his doubts. He knows how plans can often fall apart. He knows how the situation in this place can change overnight. He knows that he could let his guard down ten minutes from now and be dead.
...but, making Souji worried about all that won't do anything. It will only distract him from the one and only important thing here: to stay alive.]

[it's a half-lie. Yosuke knows he's only going to call if it would actually make a difference... but, at least, he can promise to do that.]
